lady from Suzhou, speaks Mandarin with Cantonese accents, which
sounds surprisingly pleasant in combination with the soft tunes of
her hometown dialect. Later I found out that she picked up
Cantonese at the early stage of her career in order to engage
herself more quickly in the working environment where all her
superiors were Cantonese. It is a tough task for a person who has
never lived in Guangdong or Hong Kong and is a conspicuous proof of
her intelligence and diligence. I began to have a more favorable
feeling toward this "un-typical" Suzhou lady and was eager to know
her better.
When I mentioned that
she was the only Chinese female General Manager in the Marriott
Group, Ms. Xu smiled indifferently and explained that the Marriott
Group stresses the discovery and nurturing of talents. Management
and staff resume their respective roles and exploit their own
